These Air Fryer Frozen Turkey Burgers are juicy and topped with an easy garlic lemon dill aioli made with mayo. They're fast and flavorful!

When you're looking for a fast and flavorful meal, it doesn't get any better than these Air Fryer Turkey Burgers! This recipe is made with frozen turkey patties that are dressed up with aioli and the result feels downright gourmet.

Air fryer turkey burgers on buns with lettuce, tomato, and dill aioli.

I love to make things from scratch when I can and tend to stay away from pre-packaged and processed ingredients. Sometimes, though, life gets busy and we just need something that's quick and gets the job done.

These turkey burgers are just the thing when you don't have a ton of time to spend making dinner, but also don't want to sacrifice flavor. The frozen turkey patties are jazzed up with some spices and air fried until juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside.

I love to serve them on toasted buns with some lettuce, tomato slices, and a generous drizzle of lemon dill aioli. The air fryer takes all the work out of this dish and turns a box of humble frozen turkey patties into something delectable.

I've made these burgers a few times during the past few weeks and I find myself craving them yet again.

Do I Have To Thaw Frozen Turkey Burgers?

The great thing about this dish is that the frozen turkey burger patties do not need to thaw before cooking. You can simply remove them from the package, add a few spices for extra flavor, and toss them in the air fryer basket.

When the frozen burgers are cooked in the air fryer, the hot air circulates around the burger, creating a slightly crunchy brown exterior and juicy interior. The air fryer really does take the work out of cooking things like these burgers.

Ingredients For Air Fryer Turkey Burgers

Here's what you'll need to make them.

  • 1 2 lb. package Frozen Turkey Burgers (equals 6 ⅓ lb. patties)
  • ½ tsp. Garlic Powder
  • ½ tsp. Onion Powder
  • ¼ tsp. Kosher Salt
  • ¼ tsp. Pepper
  • Air Fryer Safe Cooking Spray (such as Avocado Oil)
  • 6 slices Cheese (such as Provolone)
  • ⅓ cup Mayo
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 2 Tbsp. Lemon Juice
  • 2 Tbsp. Fresh Dill (or 2 tsp. Dried Dill)
  • Pinch Kosher Salt and Pepper
  • 1 package Gluten Free Buns (or regular buns if not gluten free)
  • Lettuce and Tomato (optional)

Are Frozen Turkey Burgers Gluten Free?

Many brands of frozen turkey burgers are gluten free, contain only a few ingredients, and are minimally processed. They are high in protein and relatively low in fat, making them a great healthy option.

I used Butterball brand frozen turkey burgers that I purchased from my local grocery store and was super happy with the results.

Make sure to check labels to ensure that the brand you choose is free of gluten if it's an issue for you.

How To Cook Frozen Turkey Burgers In Air Fryer

The air fryer is one of my favorite kitchen appliances for many reasons, these turkey burgers being one of them.

This recipe is made with a basket air fryer. The time and temp may vary slightly if using another type of air fryer.

  1. The first step is to remove the frozen turkey burger patties from the package and place them on a baking sheet.
  2. Sprinkle one side of the burgers evenly with ¼ tsp. each garlic and onion powder, along with ⅛ tsp. each kosher salt and pepper.
  3. Flip the burgers over and sprinkle the second side with ¼ tsp. each garlic and onion powder, and another ⅛ tsp. each kosher salt and pepper.
  4. Generously spray air fryer basket with a cooking spray that is safe for use in air fryers (such as a brand that does not use aerosols or propellants).
  5. Place as many frozen turkey patties as can fit in your air fryer basket (make sure not to overcrowd the basket or overlap the patties).

Each model and brand of air fryer is different and this may affect how many patties can be cooked at once.

I have a small air fryer basket that only fits one patty at a time, but you are welcome to fit as many as can fit comfortably in your air fryer.

What Temperature To Cook Turkey Burgers In Air Fryer?

I tested these burgers at a few different cooking temps and found 380 degrees Fahrenheit to be the best.

This temperature creates a slightly crispy crust on the outside and does not dry out the interior of the interior of the burger.

How Long To Cook Frozen Burgers In Air Fryer?

The turkey patties cook for 10 minutes on the first side, flipped, and then cooked for an additional 10 minutes on the second side. This makes for a total cooking time of roughly 20 minutes for each batch of burgers.

  1. Once the burgers are placed in the air fryer basket, close it, and cook for 10 minutes on the first side at 380 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. After 10 minutes, remove the basket and flip the burgers. Cook for an additional 10 minutes on the second side.
  3. If you would like melted cheese on your burgers, remove the basket when there is 1 minute of cook time remaining. Place a slice of cheese on each burger, return the basket, and cook for the remaining minute. This should be enough time to melt the cheese.
  4. Alternately, you can cook them for the full amount of time and place a slice of cheese on each burger after removing them from the air fryer.

How To Know When Turkey Burgers Are Done?

The safe internal temperature for turkey burgers is 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Internal temperature is the best gauge for telling when these Air Fryer Frozen Turkey Burgers have finished cooking and can be tested using a food thermometer.

Cooking times may vary slightly, depending on the model and brand of air fryer used, but it's important that the interior of these burgers reaches a safe internal temperature.

Alternately, it's important not to overcook them, as turkey burgers have a tendency to dry out when overcooked.

How To Make Lemon Dill Aioli

This garlic lemon dill aioli is super easy to prepare and can be made while the turkey burgers are cooking in the air fryer. It only requires a few ingredients, but delivers massive flavor!

  1. To make this lemon dill sauce, start by mincing 2 cloves of garlic.
  2. Add ⅓ cup mayo to a small bowl, along with 2 Tbsp. lemon juice, the minced garlic, 2 Tbsp. freshly minced dill (or 2 tsp. dried dill), and a pinch of kosher salt and pepper.
  3. Stir all of these ingredients until completely combined and transfer to the fridge until ready to use.

Can I Sub A Different Herb?

Absolutely, feel free to use any herb you like when making this aioli recipe!

Chives, basil, cilantro, or tarragon would all be great herbs to use in place of dill. You can opt for fresh or dried versions if using any of these herbs.

What To Serve With Turkey Burgers

I love turkey burgers because they are basically a blank canvas and tend to take on the flavor of whatever is added to them.

The garlic and onion powder gives these burgers a great savory flavor and the lemon dill aioli gives it a bright and tangy quality. Fresh veggies like lettuce and tomatoes lighten the whole thing up.

You can top these burgers any way you like. Burgers of any kind are a highly subjective meal and no two people top them the same.

These burgers can be topped with any variety of sauces and spreads. Mayo, mustard, BBQ sauce, pesto, chipotle aioli, ranch dressing, 1,000 Island dressing, tzatziki sauce, lemon herb tahini, blue cheese sauce, salsa, and guacamole are all delicious options to use in place of the dill aioli.

Turkey burgers pair well with toppings like caramelized onions, chutney, roasted red peppers, sundried tomatoes, mushroom tapenade, Kalamata olive tapenade, hummus, and sautéed mushrooms.

Pickles, lettuce, tomato, pickled red onions, jalapenos, kimchi, or anything of the sort is a great choice.

I topped these Air Fryer Frozen Turkey Burgers with Provolone cheese, but any cheese that melts nicely will work.

Feel free to toast the buns for extra flavor and texture if you like.

How Long Do These Burgers Keep In The Fridge?

Any leftover burgers may be stored for 2-3 days in the fridge. Be sure to allow them to cool completely before transferring to the fridge for storage.

Leftover dill aioli may be stored for 2-3 days in an airtight container in the fridge.

Do I Need To Make All Of Them At Once?

You can make as many or as few burgers as you like. Be sure to adjust the seasoning accordingly, depending on how many burgers you make.

Feel free to reduce the amount of aioli you make to reflect the change in the amount of burgers. Or, you can simply top them with mayo, or any way you like.
